The Exchange (Greenock) 2022 : Review

Todays Visit

Today was my parents anniversary, and we had gone to Dunoon and we needed a place to visit for dinner.

I had been here at the opening and really loved the food, everything was very tasty so I said lets grab the ferry and grab dinner at The Exchange.

The Food

I knew I was in for a treat tonight if the standard was just like my first visit.

Black Pudding Spring rolls £5.95
Served with creamy peppercorn sauce

The moment I saw this I knew I had to order this as it sounded very good.

On arrival this looked really good, and smelled very nice.

I tried the spring rolls on their own and they were lovely, and then with the sauce and WOW this elevated it to another level and was so so so so moreish!

I could have easily had this again as my main tonight!

Penne Carbonara £8.95
Smoked pancetta and mushrooms served win a white wine, garlic cream sauce.

I was looking forward to this, and on arrival this looked good.

I took a bite, then another two…hmm

I will start with the good part, the pasta was cooked nicely.

I did not get much flavour of anything through this pasta.

I even added some salt and pepper and still not much, I actually only took half and left it as I didn’t enjoy this.

Sorry guys.

Visit Overall

Overall todays visit was a bit disappointing.

After an amazing invite when they opened, and heard pre covid that they were still really good.

Todays visit was not great!

The starter was amazing! and I really loved that…..but the pasta was terrible. Zero flavour and not nice to eat. I’m surprised the chefs used normal mushrooms because they lacked depth and got lost in a tasteless pasta sauce. If you were to cook this pasta dish at home I would recommend trying portobello mushrooms or shitake mushrooms which are both full of intense flavour, click here to see more great mushroom alternatives!

Sorry guys.

Zizzi (Princes Square, Glasgow) 2021 : Review

The Visit

Tonight I was having dinner with a friend, then heading off to the new Vue cinema to see Rock 4 Directors cut.

The Starter

Garlic Bread £5.45
Brushed with garlic and rosemary.

On arrival this was a big portion, I was expecting something half the size.

It visually looked good, and smelled good and I was hungry so I couldnt wait to try it.

This was really lovely, the texture, taste and flavours all were perfect!

If you visit here, you have to order this!

Main Course

Rigatoni Pesto Rosso £12.25
A creamy sundried tomato pesto and mascarpone sauce with spicy pulled harissa chicken.

I was going to order a pizza, but then spotted this and thought lets give it a try.

This sounded really nice, and with the spicy harissa chicken should have a nice wee kick.

The pasta was cooked perfectly, but flavour wise for me was a little bland. I didn’t get any spiciness to it even a slight kick.

Overall it was ok, but just a little bland.

When Tiramisu Met Brownie £6.85
Chocolate brownie topped with coffee sponge fingers and mascarpone cream, finished with gold balls and hot chocolate sauce.

From the description I HAD to order this, two things I like brownie and Tiramisu.

Presentation was nice, and I couldn’t wait to dig in.

I tried it on its own without the addition of the chocolate sauce.

It was nice but flavour wise I was getting MUCH more brownie than Tiramisu which was disappointing.

I then tried the chocolate sauce on its own and it had a slight burnt taste to it, due to it being heated up too much…but I poured it over and took a bite.

This was nice with the sauce, but still I missed the Tiramisu flavour .

On paper this sounded great, and very yumm but due to poor execution it should have been more 50/50

My Rating:

Rating: 2 out of 5.

Tonights visit was a bit of a mixed bag, I really loved my starter and my main course was nice just needed a touch more flavour.

My desert was very poor, but as you can see from the photo it is MUCH more brownie than Tiramisu…if this got fixed to 50/50 that would make a massive difference.

Little Italy (West End, Glasgow) 2021 : Review

V: 22nd October 2021

Tonight I was meeting a friend for dinner here, and we both felt like pizza, and we both knew what we wanted so it was going to be an easy order.

The Dinner

10″ Pepperoni Pizza £8.95

I tried the pizza slice of this ages ago, but never the full pizza so I was looking forward to trying it.

I do like a good Pepperoni pizza, and a nice thin base but did they do that here?

This was perfect, the base was lovely and thin, and the topping was very tasty.

I enjoyed every bite!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Visit Overall :

Tonight was a really nice meal, and catchup and looking around everyone around us was having a fun and enjoyable night.
