The Old Bank (Battlefield Road, Glasgow) 2022: Review

Todays Visit

I was lucky to be invited to the opening of the Old Bank, where I was going to get to sample some of their food. I set a date in my calendar and time slot and headed there.

On arrival I loved the welcome balloons outside, this was a great idea as it was very eye catching for the blogger event plus everyone walking past or driving past.

On entering I was greeted and told about the wee welcome snack.

This was a really nice touch, as while sampling it, we could look around and take pics etc

This was very nice and the drink was a mocktail which was perfect as I was driving today.

The Inside

On entering I was very impressed with how it looked, it was bright, warm and had a nice cosy atmosphere to it.

It was much bigger inside than I thought it would be, and has a little side area with more seats to which is great.

I sat down and started taking pics and enjoying my nibbles.

The Food

At todays visit we were shown the menu, and had to choose a wee dish that caught our attention.

For me everything sounded good, and a few names sounded very interesting as I have never heard of them.

Small Plates £N/A tonight
Samosas and Pakoras. Accompanied with Old Bank sauce.

For me Pakora is normally my go to starter, so a samosa was a nice change…well yes I was getting both to try but you know what I mean.

On arrival they looked very nice, so it was now time to taste.

The samosa was very nice, had a nice crisp outside and a very nice filling.

The pakora was perfectly cooked, and with the dip it took it to another level…it was very nice.

Overall they were nice starters.

My Rating:

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Main Course

Onion Bhaji Naaniza

I have had Onion Bhaji’s before but never one with this name so I had to check it out and see what it was like.

On arrival this was not how I imagined it would look, but the smell was very very good coming from it and I couldnt wait to dig right in.

This was an interesting flavour, but a very nice one. It did and didn’t taste like an onion bhaji as there was something else coming through but I couldn’t put my finger on it…but it was very very tasty.

I could easily have this again!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Visit Overall

Firstly a big thanks to the guys at the Old Bank for my invite, and as always the review you have just read is 100% honest and hasn’t been influenced in anyway.

Here was a very nice visit, I think it will do very well as it stands out from the rest of the restaurants etc nearby.

I will add here to my list to revisit and try some other dishes, so keep watching this space.

I have been here before, probably around 4 weeks prior to when this blog is dated.

I went with my girlfriend and best friend, that night I wasn’t too hungry but they really enjoyed the food so I was hungry tonight and decided to take a visit.

On entering here you have to go upstairs, this visit and last nobody was downstairs to say “just go up” which is ok if you know this if not you feel a little out of place just heading up.

Last visit we were seated to the right (where the booths are), tonight to the left where the little tables are….this is where tonight took a little bad turn.

Sitting down it was nice but not as nice as the booths area, and this is where my overall score drops instantly by 1 point.

The walls to my side look like someone threw their dinner on it, and the stains have been left for a very long time. It wasn’t loads, but it was enough that it really should have been painted!! This wasn’t good as a quick paint, would have fixed this (-1 point).

The Food…

Tonight I wanted to order a starter and a main, as last visit my best friend said his was really nice.

I saw they did a pre-theatre menu, so I opted for that £12.95

Drink

Mango Lassi

Unfortunately I didn’t catch the price of this, but I am guessing £3 or £4 (will fix once I find out). I am a big Mango Lassi fan, so I always try it wherever I go and tonight I did just that.

I have to say this was probably the best one I have had, so I am looking forward to having it again.

Starter

Chicken Pakora
Breast of chicken in spicy pakora batter.

On arrival this smelled and looked good, so it was time to dig in.

This was really nice, the flavour was good, the chicken was tender and the batter was just crispy.

I really enjoyed this and would have again.

Main

Chicken Rogan Josh

On arrival again this was another dish that smelled really good.

This was really really good, there was enough chicken, the sauce and flavour just perfect.

I would have this again.

Side

Pashwari Naan

On arrival it looked ok, and now it was time to taste as Pashwari is my fav naan.

Oh, this was not good! basically it was just a plain naan with the coconut etc lightly sprinkled on top.

There was no sweet filling, not even a little….I was very disappointed.

I wouldn’t order this again, not good guys!!

Overall

Overall it was a really mixed night, to starter and curry was very nice but the dirty walls and the naan was really bad.

I was really disappointed tonight, as the last visit my friends had a really nice meal and were seated in the booth area which was clean unlike tonight.

Will go back? not sure….

Sorry guys.

Kebabish Grill (Glasgow) : Review

V: 1st August 2019. T: 0141 424 1879. W: www.kebabishgrill.co.uk

Hey guys so after the great re-launch party for Kebabish Grill (see my post here) I had to go back, but I didn’t book or call ahead I just went and hoped I could get a table.

Lucky when I arrived there were a few left, so I was shown to my seat and guess what it was the same table and same seat as last time.

I wanted to see how the food was when it wasn’t an invite, I always try and do that with everywhere I get invited to that way I know how the food really is.

The Food…

I decided I was having at least two courses and one of my fav drinks a Mango Lussi, so it was time to order and see how the food was tonight.

Starter

Mixed Pakora £6.95

How good does this look, and it smelled very nice.

Each type of Pakora was very nice and this was a BIG portion, I enjoyed every mouthful and everything was cooked perfectly.

Main Course

Butter Chicken £11.95
succulent pieces of chicken cooked in Kebabish traditional creamy sauce.

I have had butter chicken at other restaurants before, so I had to try it here.

Visually if I compare the other butter chicken had a more yellow sauce, where this was more orange in colour….now it was time to dig in.

Ohhh now this had a really nice flavour, very different to the others I have had but mmmm yeah really nice. The chicken pieces where very tender, and the combination of rice, sauce and chicken was perfect.

I will definitely be having this again, but next visit I will try something else.

I forgot to take down the cost of the rice sorry, bad blogger I know

Drink

Mango Lussi (Jug) £7.95

Tonight I came with my best friend Chris, and he is also a Mango Lussi fan so we decided to go for the jug.

This was very nice, smooth and had a nice mango flavour…..to be honest I could have probably had the whole jug to myself as I really like Mango Lussi 🙂

Overall

Tonight I came back and was not disappointed, the food was just as nice as the launch event.

I even tried some from my friends plate and his was also packed with flavour, so I am definable coming back for more.

Guys I am highly recommending Kebabish Grill, please do check it out!
