My journey into Romanian Music

prince-abid-640396-unsplash

Hey guys, just decided to post something different to my normal, just to spice things up a bit.

As you may not know about me, I listen to music from all over the world. Some people find that strange, as I don’t understand the language but if the melody is good, the beat is good then its a good tune for me.

I have many styles on my iPhone from French, Italian, Chinese, KPop, Hindi plus many more and now Romanian.

This area of music is still very new to me, so I am sure there are many other artists that I have still to learn about but here are my top artists and favourite song from them…so far

I bet when you saw Romanian Music you instantly thought of very traditional style music? well just like every country you do have that, but the music I am into is the current chart scene.

As you may have seen from previous blogs, or even my Travel Vlogs on Youtube I have visited Romania and while over there I keep listening to the background music in restaurants and bars etc

Not in any particular order…

Irina Rimes

Fav Song: Visele – https://bit.ly/2IL1ii2

Irina Rimes has many songs, and I really like them all but the one above just had something for me.

Carla’s Dreams

Fav Song: Sub Peelea Mea & the remix (Midi Culture Remix) : https://bit.ly/1Pspso8

Wow, this guys voice is so good, and all the songs have a great melody and beat. The one above good but the remix is always playing in my car. If you want to hear it in English then click HERE

Ioana Ignat

Fav Song: Nu Ma Uita : https://bit.ly/2FWZPiO

For me, it was her voice that stood out, and then the music. The song above is one that I really like, and its melody had me hooked on it.

Ioana Ignat does sing other songs and sings with many other artists and it’s her voice that you will notice first.

Overall :

So the above I would say are my top 3, as I have more songs on my phone from them than I do other artists.

The other ones I have on my phone, either have 1 song or many 2. Below I will have a few of these and links to the videos on YouTube.

Feel free to suggest more Romanian Artists you may that you think I might like.

If like me you enjoy getting into new artists and styles then hopefully I have introduced you into something new and one you will explore. Let me know if you try any of these, and what your thoughts are.

Here are just a few more for you to try…

Enjoy 🙂

This weekend Glasgow starts a big cocktail event, with many places around Glasgow doing big events where you get to try some funky cocktails.

The cocktail weekend is running August 9 – 12th so check out www.glasgowcocktailweekend.co.uk for more info

Tonight I was invited to come to Kelvingrove Cafe for a cocktail launch event so I couldn’t wait to attend and see what they had in store.

On entering everyone was treated to a few different canapés, all of which were very nice so much so I may have had seconds. These were meant to complement tonight’s cocktails, but as they were so nice they kinda were finished before the cocktails.

So after getting some nibbles I sat down and had a look around.

I have never been in here, so it was interesting to take a look around. The event was in the downstairs part of Kelvingrove Cafe, and I have to say it really had a very nice and cool feel and look to it.

Everything was perfect, from the atmosphere to the lighting and also the music.

At this event, there were the guys from Makar Gin, one of them I had met before at a few other Gin events so it was nice to see them again….plus I heard they do a rum now which I will HAVE TO TRY!!!!! I love rum.

The other brand that was here was Naked Grouse a whisky company, one, to be honest, I didn’t know much about (but then again am not really a whisky fan).

The first round of cocktails came out, and they looked really good.

This cocktail was called Strawberries and Dreams, and it was sweet, with lots of flavours and a subtle hint of whiskey in the background/aftertaste.

There were two more cocktails, unfortunately, my photos for these didn’t turn out great but…

The second one was called Courgetti Junction, which had a big thin slice of Courgette in the glass. This was probably my favourite out of all three, I really don’t know why as the first was sweeter and I have a sweet tooth.

The third one I can’t remember its name, well this was defo my least favourite as, to be honest, it tasted like salty water…. not good so I left this one.

Throughout the night we were treated to some really good tunes, by DJ Aisha. Aisha if you are reading this, thanks for the music tonight.

The event was presented by the whiskey company Naked Grouse so there were some of their products in all of tonight’s cocktails.

Part of the event we got to sit and have a smell and taste season with one of the reps from Naked Grouse.

This was a very fun and interesting part of the night, you got blindfolded to mask what you were smelling or eating and had to describe how it tasted/smelt e.g caramel or rough

Its amazing the flavours and smells that come over, when your not using your eyes to give you clues.

There was an afterparty, but I didn’t stay that long as I had a busy day at work that day and was shattered.

Overall

Tonight was a very very enjoyable night and I enjoyed every moment and the cocktails…well apart from the last one 🙂

A big thank you to Kelvingrove Cafe, the guys at Naked Grouse and DJ Aisha again….it was a great event and a great start to the up and coming Glasgow Cocktail Weekend.

I am not really a whisky fan, but with these cocktails tonight (1st two only) I actually liked the taste of them.

Thank you guys and please do check out the amazing weekend ahead filled with many cocktails am sure.

Cheers

Mango Tropical Bar (Glasgow) : Review

Child Friendly: No as a bar      Accepts: Cash & Card

I have passed Mango a few times, when walking to the West End and I recently saw a voucher deal for here (two burgers and a cocktail for £12) which I had to get as it was a very good deal.

On entering we were greeted and shown to our table, and had a look about and at the menu.

For me this place had a really good atmosphere about it, you had Latin American music playing in the background, everyone was having a nice time, you had a TV that was showing football and WWE.

One part that was very cool was at every both, there was a plug socket on the wall. This had normal plug points and a USB point which was a nice touch.

The Food :

Beef Burrito £n/a as had voucher (normally £8.90)
Wheat flour tortilla wrapped with meat, refried beans, lettuce, guacamole, cheese and sour cream.

IMG_7994.jpg

I have had a few Burritos in the last few months, so I thought I would try one from here. On arrived it looked very nice, and it smelled really good.

At first bite I was a little puzzled as I was expecting it to have rice inside, but I am guessing not all Burritos need to have this.

Overall this was just OK for me, there were a few very chewy bits of beef but the majority were all nice and tender and the flavour was nice. The dips really did add to the flavour, my favourite was the sour cream I felt this worked very well with this.

Cocktail :

Mango Mojito £n/a as had voucher

The waitress who was very helpful tonight told me about the 3 cocktails I could choose from, so I told her I had a sweet tooth and to surprise me and she brought this one.

So I was with my friend tonight and there were two items on the dessert list that caught our eye, so we decided to order both and try half of each.

Desserts :

Churros con Chocolate £4.50
Very Latin American sweet snack to dip in to hot chocolate

IMG_8001.jpg

I wanted something sweet tonight, and this is a very sweet dessert.

I have had this before in many restaurants and loved it, and tonight I enjoyed it and with the dip it made it that extra sweet that I needed.

Torta de Queijo con Mango £4.50
Fresh Home Baked Mango cheesecake

This was very nicely presented, and I couldn’t wait to dig in.

It was a very nice cheesecake, with a very nice Mango sauce.

Overall :

Overall I really enjoyed my first visit here, food wise for me it was nice but atmosphere and cocktails that’s where it won for me.

I would like to go back and try another dish, and more of the cocktails.

As I said at the start of this post, I really felt relaxed and really enjoyed the atmosphere here. The music was at a perfect level, and the service, decor etc were all very good.
