Yup back at Glasgow Amore for my 35th Birthday, and it was a great place to have a birthday dinner.

I was recently here and enjoyed it very much, so I was very happy when I heard it was here.

Just like the last time we were seated, and given a few mins to look over the menu.

This time I was just having a main course, as there was a birthday cake waiting for me later so I had to leave room for that.

The Food…

I was a little bit of a bad food blogger tonight, but hey you can forgive me since it was my birthday….I forgot to take note of the cost but then again it was a treat….

Main Course

Fish Risotto

IMG_7874

I like a good risotto, one that has flavour, good consistency and also fills you up…

This was very nice and had a really nice pleasant, but not overpowering flavour to it. Half way through I was starting to get full, but I always finish what I order.

I have had Amore on my list to visit for a very long time, but Merchant City is not an area of Glasgow I tend to visit a lot mostly as I am either in the centre or West End….but I have added a few more restaurants to my list so I will be seeing this area more.

While I was at work I got a ping in my inbox, and it was an invite to come and visit Amore and feel the atmosphere and taste the food….now how could I refuse I LOVE Italian food so I thanked them for the invite and accepted.

First Impression :

On entering it had that traditional Italian restaurant look and feel, and as I was walking to my table the smells ohhhh mmmmm my mouth started to water right away.

Looking about everyone was having a good time, and also enjoying the food so I couldn’t wait to take a look at the menu and see what I would order.

As my readers will know from my posts, I have visited Italy since I was about 6 months old every year so when it comes to Italian food I am VERY fussy!!

The Food…

Starter

Calamari Fritti £5.95 (Tonight £N/A)
Deef fried squid. Served with tartare sauce

IMG_7575.jpg
On arrived the first thing I noticed was, this was a big portion for a starter but I was hungry so it was perfect for me.

Normally this is a very hit or miss dish, so time to dig in and see…

This has to be the best Calamari I have had, the Calamari was not chewy or rubbery it was 100% perfect! I am very impressed so far…

On arrival this looked so good, and smelled so good…..

WOW is all I can say this was again perfect, the flavours were just amazing with every mouthful!! I cant wait to have this again, and again I think this is the best Carbonara I have tasted!

Garlic Bread £2.95 (Tonight £N/A)

This for me was a little disappointing, it didn’t have enough garlic for me but that could be a personal thing.

It was just ok.

Tiramisu £5.45 (Tonight N/A)

This was nice, not as strong a flavour as I would have liked but it was still very nice.

To be honest by the time I got on to this I was really full, so I was only half enjoying it due to that but it was very nice and I will have it again next visit and when I am not ready to explode 🙂

Overall

As always even though tonight’s food was free thanks to Amore, I am still writing a 100% honest review.

Apart from the Garlic Bread, I enjoyed everything from start to finish. The portion sizes are amazing, and due to that its very good value for money.

At first I thought the starters were larger due to me being a blogger and Amore knew I was there, but looking around nope! everyone had just as big a starter so this is very good!!!

Amore is now my favourite Italian in Glasgow, due to the amazing flavours and value for money. I know this restaurant is a little out the main centre but do check them out, you will not be dissapointed!!!!

Finally a BIG thank you to again Amore for inviting me, I had a fantastic time and fantastic food!!

Grazie

The Dhabba (Merchant City, Glasgow) : Review

V: 7th March 2018      T:  0141 553 1249  W: www.thedhabba.com

Child Friendly: Yes (well behaved kids)      Accepts: Cash & Card

The Dhabba were nice enough to ask me to come and pay them a visit, and try out their new menu which coincided with the 70th Anniversary of Indian Independence.

The menu is very cool as its designed to look like a newspaper, this for me was a very nice funky idea.

IMG_6203.jpg

The Dhabba is situated on the corner of Bell St and Candleriggs, opposite Merchant Square. Here has been on my long list of places to try for a while, so when I got this invite I kindly accepted their invitation.

Before going I took a long look at the menu, but I was still undecided as there were a lot of dishes 1. I have never heard of and 2. a lot sounded very good.

On entering I was shown to my table, and I had a look around. For me The Dhabba has a classic but also modern feel inside, its very minimalistic but at the same time it works perfect as less is more right?

There was music playing in the background, but at a good level I didn’t need to shout over (pet hate in restaurants)

The Food…

Tonights waiter I have to say was very very helpful, he answered a lot of questions and guided me through the menu and what dishes would be to my taste.

To be honest I could have tried lots tonight, but I didn’t want to be greedy so next time I will try more.

Mini poppadom crisps served with sauces were brought out while the food was being made, these were very nice and extremely moreish!!

Starter

Gol Gappa £4.95 (Tonight £N/A)
Enhanced with spicy water – this crispy puffed bread filled with special potato, and chickpeas laced with freshly grounded cumin.

IMG_6217

On arrived this looked very interesting, the waiter tonight explained how you eat these. First you pick them up, and then pour the spicy water inside then pop them in your mouth.

These were really really good, the burst of flavours from the water plus the puffed bread was perfect!!! and very refreshing!

This is a dish I could easily have again and enjoy.

Main Course

Peshawari Naan £4.25  (Tonight £N/A)
A sweet naan stuffed with fruits, nuts and fennel.

IMG_6223.jpg

I love Peshawari naan so I had to see how The Dhabba did theirs, and I have to say this was really good so good I could probably say its now my favourite place for Pesawari Naan!!

I cant wait to have this again! it was perfectly sweet and very mmmmmmm

Murg Maskawala £13.95 (Tonight £N/A)
Tandoori cooked chicken with cream, tomatoes, ground cashew nuts.

IMG_6222

I told the waiter that my favourite curry was a Korma, and more recently a Butter chicken curry. I was recommend this dish as he said it wasn’t sweet like a Korma, but nice and creamy and flavoursome just like they are.

This was very good, it was creamy like both dishes and had really nice flavours. I would say I now have 3 favourite curries as it wasn’t better than one but just as nice as my other two favourites.

If you like a creamy non spicy curry give this a try.

Rice Pudding (Tonight £N/A)

IMG_6228

Sorry guys forgot to take note of the actual name, and description but basically a rice pudding dish with cardamon to give it that extra flavour. If I am wrong I will update, this is what happens when your enjoying your food and evening you forget to take notes.

This was very filling, but then again I just had 2 courses.

Firstly I would like to say that even though tonight was free, it didn’t influence my thoughts on the review. Everything you have just read was 100% true, and I did really enjoy the food and evening.

Secondly a BIG thanks to The Dhabba for the invite and the food tonight, I really enjoyed it and will be back. The staff were also very helpful so a big thanks to them.

For me this is now in my top 3 Indian restaurants in Glasgow.

The Dhabba is not your typical curry place, its more for you to try something different than you normally would and I promise you going by tonights food you will not be disappointed.
