Wudon (West End, Glasgow) : Review

V: 14th November 2020

I have passed here many times on my walks in the West End, and always wanted to take a visit.

Today I did that, and here is what I thought.

Venue

Inside has a very nice modern and very relaxing design and atmosphere, today I was seated at the window so I could enjoy my meal while people watching.

The Food

I didn’t really know what to order as it all sounded very good, so it was a random selection and it was a good one.

katsu ga lay fan

Chicken Katsu £9.50

Mild Japanese curry sauce, steamed sticky white rice

I have had Katsu Chicken Curry before, but it was ages ago and I cant remember from what restaurant.

I thought lets try it here and see how it is.

The chicken was very tender, super tasty and the sauce and the sticky rice all were a perfect combination.

This was a big portion, and you get a load of rice with this…..I really enjoyed this 🙂

Kamo maki *new*

£4.50

This one sounded interesting.

WOW WOW WOW is all I can say, the flavour of this was just amazing! I could have easily had another 3 portions of this.

This is new on their menu at the time I am typing this, so please take a visit and try this!

Ap Soong

£6.00

I was told to try this today, as its very nice…it sounded very strange but interesting at the same time.

So you get a lettuce leaf, pout the contents inside and use that as your bun? not sure if thats the right word but thats it.

This was actually really good, and a cool way to eat. The flavours all worked together and the lettuce added a nice little crunch giving you a nice texture.

Visit Overall :

I am so glad I finally visited Wudon, I had a great visit and had really good food.

The stand out part of the meal was the Kamo Maki, I LOVED the flavours of this so much.

I am adding here to my top places to visit, and I will visit again.

This was a very random stop, and normally not a place I would visit as they mostly did Ramin….which is something I never take as I don’t know how to use chopsticks…but I saw they did other dishes so I decided to pop in and try.

Looking Around

Tonight was very busy but I opted to sit at the window so I could do some people watching and try the food.

Due to it being so busy I didn’t take any photos, due to privacy and letting people eat their food.

It is very nice inside, very bright and very modern and had a really nice relaxing atmosphere.

The Food…

Since am not good with chopsticks, and they had knives and forks…I opted for something that I have not had in ages…

Starter

Chicken Katsu Curry £11.50

breaded chicken breast, katsu curry sauce, pickles and steamed white rice

On arrival, this looked good, and I was really in the mood for something with curry.

The chicken pieces were very tender, which a really good crispy batter and had the perfect little crunch and flavour.

The portion size was really good, and I enjoyed this dish very much so I could have easily gone for seconds.

Drink

Kobai (Plum Wine) £5.10
house plum wine.

This was a random pick, and I am so glad I got this.

It was a very nice and smooth drink, that had a really nice and soft plum flavour.

The waiter asked if we wanted it with ice or no ice, his recommendation was with ice…to be honest, I think either would have been good.

Overall

Overall my experience was very good, the food was very nice and the atmosphere was good.

The one area tonight was lacking was the service, we had to attract the attention of the waitresses to order, again twice for the bill…..and twice again to get the card machine. Yes, it was busy, but most of the staff were standing talking so I can’t say they were busy with customers.
