Divans Darbar Indian Restaurant (Maryhill, Glasgow) 2021 : Review

V : 15/05/2021

The Visit

The guys at Divans Darbar asked me to come visit them to try their food, and I said yeah and set a date with them.

I have not been to Maryhill for ages, so it was going to be a nice drive.

The Restaurant

On entering you go up stairs and wow this place is lovely inside.

As you can see from the photos, its very nice, very spacious and just looks really lovely.

The Food

The menu has a great selection, and there is something for everyone’s taste. Everything I saw looked really good, so I had a tough decision to make.

Appetizer: TANDOORI PAPADUMS (VE) (SET OF 2) £2.50
Served with onion, tomato, cucumber with a magical touch of darbar

This was a recommendation from them, and it sounded great so I had to order and taste for myself 🙂

On arrived these looked really nice, and smelled really good.

I first tried without the filling and mmm the texture was nice and crispy and the flavour was perfect.

I then tried with the filling and again so good, I couldnt make my mind up what was better with our without filling.

I would easily have this again.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Starter : VEGETABLE MOMOS (VE) £4.25
This Darbar’s special steamed dumpling is a traditional delicacy in Nepal and northeast India. Served with Darbar’s special momos chutney. Choice of fillings:- Chicken, Vegetable and Prawn

On arrived the steam was coming off this, and it added to the presentation it was very cool.

I tried the dumplings on their own, and they were cooked perfect and packed with flavour.

I now tried it with the sauce and mmm again this was really good, the sauce had a small kick to it but very creamy and added to the already great flavour.

My only thought would be this dish doesn’t need the chips, they were nice with the dish but its not needed as the dumplings are all you really need due to its great flavour.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Main Course: BUTTER CHICKEN £8.99
Straight from a Punjabi kitchen, butter chicken or murgh makhanwala has been an instant hit through the years. Marinated overnight, the chicken is roasted and cooked in mildly spiced tomato gravy, single cream and host of Indian spices. Enjoy the classic creaminess of the dish with this recipe

When I go to any Indian restaurant for the first time, I always try the Korma and Butter Chicken these are my two dishes that I see how they do and if they are any good….so I opted for the butter chicken today.

On arrived this looked and smelled really good, so it was time to dig in.

This was very nice, it tasted different to other butter chicken dishes I have had but it was still very nice and very morish.

Unfortunately at this point I was getting very full, as I had a big lunch and the Momos were very filling so I left a little but only due to being full or it would have been completely finished.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Overall :

Firstly a massive thanks to the guys at Divans Darbar for my invite, and for the great food.

This is a hidden gem that I am now happy to have found, the food is really good and its a very lovely restaurant with lovely staff.

I enjoyed the food so much that its now been added to one of my top spots to visit.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Kebabish Grill Indian Restaurant (Glasgow) : Review

V: 11th March 2020

** This review was typed up before lock down! Please check with the restaurant if it is open or doing home delivery, and if they are check them out! **

I have been to Kebabish a few times, and also at the re-launch event and I promised them I would come back again to try some other dishes…..and tonight I kept my promise.

The Food

I normally order the same dishes when I go to an Indian restaurant, so I wanted to select something different and see if I liked it or not.

Starter

(NEW) Chicken Dynamite Bites £5.95

What better way to try a different dish than trying a new dish from the menu.

These were very nice, and had a small kick to them and very tender….the portion size was VERY big for a starter I was a little worried I may not have enough room for my main after this dish.

Charcoals Indian Restaurant – Take Away (Glasgow) : Review

Take Away: 28th May 2020

I have tried during lockdown to do more cooking at home rather than take away, but more recently I have had that urge for a few restaurants food that I have visited.

Charcoals

As you may know I have been to Charcoals many times, and during my college and University years it was probably every weekend with my best friend Chris.

Since I started blogging I had to visit different restaurants, so you the reader and my tastebuds get a little variety.

A while ago a few friends visited Charcoals and thought it was at that point just so so, then a few other friends said the same……..so I visited to see what they were talking about as they loved here as much as me.

At that point the food was still good, but was missing the old Charcoals flavour I knew……BUT that has all changed due to this takeaway.

Starter

Aloo Chana Poori £4.95

Aloo Chana Poori

This was actually my fiancee’s starter but due to the amount we ordered we decided to share everything, so we could try everything.

This was very nice, there was a nice subtle kick from the spices and the flavours were booming.

This was a good choice, and a good dish to start with.

I am getting addicted to vegetable pakora, and the dips so I had to get some tonight.

The batter was crispy and the flavours were spot on, and with the little dip you get with it mmmmm so so so so good.

Just typing this review and I can taste this again…..

Main Course :

Yup we were still hungry for more, and if the mains were as good as our starters we were in for a really good treat.

Peshwari Nan £3.50

Peshwari Nan

For those that dont know me I have a sweet tooth, and the Peshwari Nan is my fan nan. I have had many of these from different restaurants and its always either a hit or mis….. and this one today was a perfect hit!

The nan was nice and soft, and the flavour was not overpowering or too much in the background it was perfect!

Butter Chicken £9.95 (excluding rice)

butter chicken

I used to be a Korma guy, don’t get me wrong I still am but more recently Butter chicken has been getting ordered more and more. (I have even tried making it a home)

The chicken was mega tender, the sauce had a really nice flavour and a very very subtle kick which made a really good mouthful.

Chicken Biryani £11.95

My fiancee ordered this for her main, but as I said at the start we were trying everything.

I never order these types of dishes, as I like my Kormas etc but I was really pleasantly surprised at how nice this was.

The sauce had a kick, and worked well with the rice and the chicken.

I am glad I tried it and enjoyed it, but I will stick with my normal choices.

CHARCOALS IS BACK!!!!

This was the old Charcoals I remembered, everything packed with flavour and so so good!

We had so much left over from the dinner, we had the remainder for lunch the next day and again it tasted so good.

The food was fresh, tasty, nice spices, nice kicks etc and I am looking forward to ordering or visiting Charcoals again.

I am happy to say Charcoals is now back on my Top Spot page!
