So I decided to go back to Brel and give them a second shot, plus we had a voucher that was still unused from my last visit.

My last visit if you read was a little 50/50, the starter was good, main not good and waffle was just so so.

I decided that I wouldn’t have the same food as last time, and try something different. I was thinking either a burger or macaroni cheese…….tough choice I know.

The Food :

I opted for the burger as it was a safe bet…or was it?

The Brelburger £N/A as itison voucher

I added the following :

  • Crispy Pancetta £1.00
  • Jalapeños £1.00
  • Smoked Applewood Cheese £1.50

I am very happy I ordered this as it was a very nice burger, for me it did need the extra as I think on its on it would have been just ok. The chips were very nice, I love thin skinny chips so there are a win for me.

This was a nice burger, not my number 1 in Glasgow but its was very nice.

I did try the mac and cheese as my girlfriend opted for this, it was ok I am glad I didn’t order it as I think I would have got bored of the flavour half way through so the burger was the best choice.

Overall this visit was a lot better than my last, the burger was good and the service was good.

For me I don’t know if I would go back, at the time of writing this I am very 50/50 but if you haven’t tried it please do check it out….remember this is what I thought you may have a different experience etc

There are still lots of places in the West End of Glasgow that I have not tried, so tonight was my time to try Brel.

This was my first time here, and my first impression was this is a very nice looking place. I saw they had a beer garden, and this looked very nice and probably nicer when the sun is out.

The Food :

Tonights visit I used a recent purchase from Itison, it was a main each but I can’t comment on the cost as my girlfriend purchased this and I didn’t ask.

Food time….

1/2 Rack of BBQ baby back ribs with slaw £7.50

I have my favourite place in town for ribs, so I thought lets see how Brel does them.

On arrival presentation was ok, the smell was very good and visually it looked very nice….now to see how they tasted.

These were very nice, the meat just slide off the bone which is the way it should be and the BBQ sauce added that extra flavour.

Brel’s Seafood ‘Paella’ made with pearl barley, pan fried sea trout, mussels, squid & saffron £N/A (part of the itison offer)

This dish sounded nice, but I did fail to spot it wasn’t rice and it was using pearl barley.

Visually on arrival it looked nice, but thats when I noticed it wasn’t a normal Paella.

The fish smell wasn’t as strong as I would have liked, but I dug in and gave it a shot. For me this was just so so, I even had to add salt and pepper for me to give it that little bit of flavour (which I don’t normally do).

I personally wouldn’t order this again, as for me it was a very disappointing. I think if I had spotted it was made with pearl barley instead of rice I would have just ordered a burger or another dish.

Belgian Waffle with your choice of topping (Banana, chocolate and Vanilla ice cream) £5.50

There is always room for sweets 🙂

This sounded good on paper and looked good, but did it taste as good as it looks?

I couldn’t wait to dig in as I love chocolate and have a very sweet tooth.

So….first thing I noticed was the waffle was a little difficult to cut, maybe its pre-made and been sitting? not sure but waffles should be soft. Secondly the waffle should have been warm, it wasn’t so these two factors made what could have been a great end to the meal just so so.

These two points could be my own personal opinion, you may like your waffles done like this but for me if these got corrected it would be a really nice dish.

Overall :

Overall my first visit was just ok, it had its ups and its downs.

Would I go back? I will give Brel one more shot at some point as I feel it may have just been a bad selection on my part and I will order something else.
