Visit Date : 15th October 2016

Chaakoo opened its doors to the public on Friday 14th October 2016, so I decided to pop along today (15th) and try it out. I saw on Facebook some live videos of the first night, and it did look really nice so I was looking forward to trying here. The one issue had from the videos were the volume of the music, it sounded like it was blasting (but this isn’t the case its perfect).

From the outside you can tell this restaurant has a theme to it, even at the door before going in there are lots of old photos and retro wallpaper. Once you enter you are taken back in time to a very authentic looking 1950’s style restaurant, and I was amazed at how nice Chaakoo is inside as you can see from the above photo.

One of my comments was the music, and I was very pleased that its just loud enough and no more. One of my pet hates is having to shout over the music, so this was good and the music is all modern songs but remixed so it added a modern take to a retro restaurant.

What you are told before ordering is all the dishes are small, so its best to order a few or a lot like we did this night….the table was just big enough for the amount we ordered.

Starter

Sweet Mint Lassi £3.75

Not really a starter but while I decided what to order, I was very tempted to try a mint Lassi as I have only ever had a mango one. It was nice, the mint taste was very subtle personally for my taste it could have been a little stronger but I would try it again.

Main(s)

So as I have said above the dishes are small so your best to order a few, and yes I did so here is what I got.

KOFTA CURRY £5.50
Iranian kofta meatballs in our cafe curry sauce.

If you like meatballs then this dish is a must, everything about this was very nice from the meatball taste to the sauce. This I would have again!!

CHICKEN CHETTINAD £5.95
Coconut, curry leaves & spices, hailing originally from South India.

Normally I go for Korma but I decided to try this dish.

For me this was just ok, my friend had it and said he really liked it but for me the flavours just didn’t do it for me. Next time I will try a Korma, but I am glad I tried something different.

JINGA MASALA £9.95
Huge prawns steeped overnight in our house masala marinade then gently charred.

This was a special as you can see from the price, compaired to the other currys I had or seen on the menu.

For me this was my favourite dish of the night, the flavours in this are amazing and I was close to ordering another one. When I go back to Chaakoo this will be ordered again, or maybe two 🙂

MASALA FRIES £1.95
Skinny Fries with Masala Seasoning.

This was ordered to see what they were like, as I was just being nosy. These were very nice, and had a nice taste to them.

PESHWIRI £1.95

This is my favourite Naan as I have a very sweet tooth, for me this was very nice again and the flavours were just right.

Dessert

What? dont judge as a food blogger I had to try at least one dessert didnt i?…you should be saying yes right about now.

Toblerone Mousse

1gigwtxd9a0-euhxgz4kf5w

Unfortunatly I cant remember the cost I think it was about £4 to £5.

For me this was nice but it did lack one of the things in the title of this dish, the Toblerone taste. The bits on top were more honeycomb, so it made this more like a Crunchy Mousse….but it was still nice.

Yes there was more, again dont judge!!!

I had to finish the night with a Mango Lassi to see how Chaakoo did it, and again another one I cant fault it was nice.

Overall :

Overall my first impression was amazing, the look, atmosphere, staff and service are all really good.

I enjoyed every dish and every mouthfull, the drinks were good and even what my friend had he said was really good. I left feeling full, but not that bloated way which I normally get after an Indian.

To tell you the truth I walked out saying to myself, that this is now my favourite Indian restaurant now.

If you like small dishes and Indian food this is the place to go, or even if you just like Indian food you will not be dissapointed. I am looking forward to going back and trying a few other dishes.
