My Grandparents 60th Wedding Anniversary at the Blysthwood Hotel (Glasgow)

Event Date : Saturday 11th February 2017

Not many people these days stay married, and not many people these days get married.

It’s a rare thing these days to hear anyone married for more than 50 years, most people tend to just be lifelong partners but what matters most is that you love the person you are with.

The good parts and the bad parts, this is true love not caring about the past just caring about the present and your future with them.

My Grandparents were 60 years married, and 60 years still happy not many can say this.

Tonight was the celebration event for my grandparent’s 60th wedding anniversary, and it was being held at the Glasgow Blysthwood Square Hotel.

On arrival, the event room was empty as I got here early, so it was a good time to get some good photos.

The cake was really lovely and elegantly decorated, we also had really pretty balloons.

The company used was Cloud Nine Cake Centre

The room was decorated very nicely, there were anniversary balloons around the room. There was a nice white dance floor, which you can rent from the Hotel for any special occasion.

I took a video which is on my Instagram feel free to check it out : VIEW

As everyone turned up we all waited in the lower bar area, where a Saxophone player was playing in the background.

His name was Andy Weaver he was very good and the music created a nice welcoming atmosphere. Please check him out on his Facebook page below.

Once everyone had arrived we all went to our tables.

As you saw from the above photos and video, and the one above this text the table settings were really nice and very elegant. Everyone commented on this, and how lovely the room was.

Since I am a food blogger I couldn’t not take photos of the food tonight.

We were given a menu and to be honest I didn’t really get a chance to study, as I was busy chatting with people.

I made a quick decision when ordering but it was a good one.

Starter :

Smooth chicken liver parfait, toasted brioche, Onion chutney and rocket

abfa81f9-3258-419f-95e8-26885b697269

I am a big fan of Pate and this was full of flavour, having it on the brioche just set it off and was really good.

Again anywhere you go and order Pate they never give you enough whatever to spread it on, you always get a larger amount of Pate than the toast etc….I really wish I knew why they did this.

Main :

Seared supreme of Chicken with chive mashed potato, leek fondue, fine beans with shallots, Cherry tomatoes and red wine sauce

For me this was the only option on the menu that sounded ok, the other option I wasn’t really a fan of so this was my fallback.

I am glad it was a fallback, the chicken was cooked really nicely.

The leek fondue was my favourite as whatever they did to it, it was a really nice flavour and I could have had more.

Dessert :

Vanilla panna cotta, mango and kiwi salsa, passionfruit syrup and Chantilly cream

There is always room for dessert.

This was very light, very easy to eat and had a nice flavour.

To finish we had coffee or tea.

Through the meal and a little after the mean singer Henrick Solera.

I have now met Henrick a few times, as he has been at most of the events we have held at the Blysthwood Hotel.

My little cousin Danielle also sang a song with him, again a proud cousin here as that’s something I couldn’t do even if I could sing in tune. It’s only a short clip as the full video is 3mins long, and Instagram limit size.

The evening went very well, and my grandparents had a lovely time.

This was a special moment for all the family, my grandparents and friends. Again I would like to wish them a Happy Anniversary

New Years Eve at the Blythswood Square Hotel (Glasgow) : Review

I have been to the Blythswood several times, sometimes with family and others with friends or my mum. The last few times I have been for Afternoon Tea, and family events.

The Blythswood Hotel has been done up nicely, and the staff and service have always been very good. The atmosphere the past few times I have been has always been very hit or miss…I don’t know what it is but every visit there is always a little something missing for me.

Tonight was a family friends night, I went with my parents and my best friend and his mum and dad. My grandparents were there, and so were my aunt, uncle and two cousins. Some of my Aunt’s friends and cousins’ friends were also there, so it was a busy and big table.

Once everyone arrived and introduced themselves we all found our places and sat down.

img_4306

We all sat and talked, and also had a look at the menu to see what we wanted.

Starter :

Cream of parsnip and pear velouté
Parmesan wafer, herb oil

img_4310

I am not a soup person but I have been trying to take a better-mixed meal every time I go out, and the soup was a good option for me to start with.

This was very nice, you could taste the parsnip and the honey. The Parmesan wafer was very nice and added that extra little flavour to the dish.

Main :

Ironbark pumpkin and mascarpone risotto
Grilled artichokes, blue cheese croquette, chive cream sauce

IMG_4311.jpg

I love risotto so when I saw it on the menu tonight, it was the dish for me.

This was very nice, very creamy and full of flavour. The blue cheese croquette was very nice, and I could have had more of that with it.

Dessert

Knocraich Farm yoghurt and red berry panna cotta
Spiced honey and clementine macaron, blackcurrant sorbet, fresh red currants and cinder toffee.

Again another dish where I couldn’t fault it, it again was perfect portion size and was full of flavour.

Throughout this meal there was a live singer, his name is Henrick Solera. Henrick Solera who is a singer and entertainer came over from the Martinez Hotel France to perform for tonight’s dinner. If you check out his Facebook page you will see he sings in many different venues.

Henrick Solera Facebook : www.facebook.com/henricksolera/

Henrick Solera is an international singer, musician & entertainer. Singing Sinatra classics as well as contemporary hits by Josh Groban and Michael Bublé, an evening with Solera is one that will put a smile on your face and a song in your heart.

His passion for the great American songbook, beloved evergreens, retro swing tunes, broadway classics, and unforgettable majestic ballads will move you and speak to your heart.

** Taken from his website

This was the first time I have really heard Henrick perform live, I have seen a few videos as my Aunt Uncle and cousins stay in the south of France and have seen Henrick a few times.

All the songs Henrick sang were perfect for the evening, and the level of music was ok. Yes, you did need to talk a little louder but it wasn’t to the level where you were shouting at the people around you so this was nice.

One part of the evening I was really looking forward to was my little cousin Danni, she got up and sang a few solo songs and a few duets with Henrick.

Danni was really amazing, she has a great voice and I wish she sang more last night. I am a very proud cousin, as she has a gift and was very brave singing to everyone….Something I know I couldn’t do even if I did have a good voice.

Overall :

One issue that everyone at the table wasn’t happy with, was the length of time it took for each course to come out. After we arrived and ordered it took an hour and a half for the first course to come out, and this continued per course.

I don’t know if it was due to the large amount at our table, they waited till every dish was made before bringing it out or if they just didn’t have enough kitchen staff or to prolong it to the bells. I wasn’t really too fussed as we weren’t in a rush and it allowed us to have a good chat.

Apart from this delay, the food and night were very nice. Everyone enjoyed the evening and was nice to welcome the New Year with family and friends I did it sitting close to my parents and my best friend and his parents 🙂

Happy New Year everyone!!!!
