There are many Italian restaurants in Glasgow, and Gusto is one of the new kids on the block. I have tried Prezzo, Zizzi, Tony Macaroni, Bella Italia, etc, and found them nice but nothing special. I have a special place in my heart for Italy and Italian food so not finding a good Italian was a little disappointing.

Recently though I did find an Italian that is the joint place with Gusto for me, but that’s another review.

I tried to get into Gusto a few weeks ago but due to it being very popular there were no tables free, but I have to admit the girl that was at the front was very pleasant. So I did the smart thing and book in advance.

The interior is very nice, it’s got a nice posh but casual atmosphere. It even has a small section outside at the front, that on a nice sunny day (granted Glasgow doesn’t get many) it would be nice to sit outside.

Starter:

I started with the mixed olives while waiting for my meal, these were very nice but sadly they had seeds that put me right off them so I only took half.

Calamari deep-fried with lemon mayonnaise

Calamari deep fried with lemon mayonnaise

My starter was Calamari deep-fried with lemon mayonnaise. This was very nice and was a good-sized portion something I would have again.

Main :

My main course was Spaghetti Carbonara, one of my favourite Italian meals. This was done the correct way with eggs, and not cream and very tasty. If you are a Carbonara fan get this, I also got a side of Polenta chips which worked very well with this.

Dessert:

Last I got a Chocolate Fondue which is to share and yes before you think what a pig I did share it with my friend. To be honest, it’s a good size, but I could have easily had one to myself.

Overall :

Overall my first experience at Glasgow Gusto Italian was very good, this and the Italian Cafe are currently my 2 fav Italians in Glasgow.

Next time I go back I will try different items.

My win at Byron Burgers (Glasgow) : Review

So I tried the new burger place in Glasgow called Bryron Hamburgers, as I won a Twitter competition for a free £50 meal.

So I tried the new burger place in Glasgow called Bryron Hamburgers, as I won a Twitter competition for a free £50 meal.

After winning the Byron £50 notes, I looked at some of the reviews and found them to be very mixed but that didn’t put me off as I love trying new places.

On arriving we were greeted and the staff was very pleasant and showed us to our table. All the waiters and waitresses couldn’t have been nicer.

Starter :

Buffalo Chicken Wings (12)
served with blue cheese dip.

This was really really good and my friend and I split the 12….to be honest, I could have just had the 12 to myself.

Main :

B-REX Burger (Doubled Up) and Fries

B-REX Burger (Doubled Up) and Fries: 2x 6oz hamburger, onion ring, streaky bacon, American cheese, jalapeños, pickles, onion, BBQ sauce, and mayonnaise.

Now, this was a mouthful but it was so good and very very very filling. I think I will be a good boy next time and not double up.

Dessert :

OREO CHEESECAKE

OREO CHEESECAKE: Oreo cookie base, vanilla, and Oreo cheesecake, topped with… more Oreos.

After my big B-Rez, I didn’t know if I had room for this but I tried and finished it. It’s a very tasty cheesecake that I found to be very light.

For my drink I decided to have the Chocolate Milkshake, well this was massive and very thick but it was the best Milkshake I have had to date.

Overall :

Overall I had a great experience and the food was really good. Yes, I would go back again, as for burgers this is now probably my favorite place in Glasgow to date.

Also a big thanks to Byron Hamburgers for my win, very much appreciated
