V: 26th September 2019

I got a wee ping in my Instagram inbox from Ajay, inviting me to come to Swadish for dinner. Ajay is the owner and Chef of Swadish, which is new to Merchant City (since around end of May).

I accepted and set a date in my calender.

Swadish has been on my ever growing hit list to visit, so this was really good and I started to have a wee snoop at the menu before going.

Swadish is situated where Ad Lib used to be, if that doesnt ring any bells look at the top of this review to see the address and have a nosy on Google Maps.

Looking Around

On entering I could see the changes to the decor from its previous owner (Ad Lib), it looked a lot more fresh, modern, warm and relaxing. This was much better, and more visually appealing!!

We were shown to our table, and had a look at the menu and about Swadish.

A little palate cleanser was given to us, while we had a look at the menu.

This was very refreshing and a nice little idea….after a few mins we got some nibbles while we decided what to order.

Yup I know what you are thinking, whats the while ball thing at the top….yip that was also my thoughts. I cant remember its name, but the closest way to describe it is like balled prawn crackers but without the prawn flavour.

All the dips were home made, and these own their own or with dips were very nice.

The Food

I planned only to have two courses tonight, and to be honest I really couldn’t decided as there was at least 4 starters I liked the sound of and probably the same amount for the mains.

Ajay told me that all the ingredients are all locally sourced, but cooked the traditional Indian way. I loved this concept, and couldn’t wait to start eating.

Sesame Fish Fried : £N/A tonight (Normally £5.50)

Scottish Haddock, Sesame Sees, Pickled Cucumber, Onion, Roasted Tomato & Avocado Salsa

I decided to order this since it said Scottish Haddock, and see how the fusion of Scottish ingredients with the Indian cooking was.

I was expecting something that tasted like fish fingers, but I was so wrong.

These were very nice, the flavour of the fish was subtle and the batter just crispy which made the perfect mouthful.

Crispy Alloo Nest Chaat : £N/A tonight (Normally £4.50)

Potato Rosati Nest, White Pea Mash, Tamarind and Sweet Yogurt.

I was told tonight that this is one of the most popular dishes, and I can see and taste why.

Visually this was really nice, and the taste WOW getting everything so you have the perfect bite gave you a perfect bite.

I could have easily had two of these.

Main Course :

Again there were so many options I wanted to try, but I decided to pick something random.

Lamb Shank Rogan Josh : £N/A tonight (Normally £14)

Tender Scottish Lamb Shank Braised in Bone Marrow, Cinnamon, Fennel Seeds, Cloves for 8 hours for delicate flavours and mouth melting texture, Crispy Straw Potatoes.

Wow this was a big portion, and the smell was amazing…time to dig in.

Sauce flavours were very very nice, and the lamb! wow now this was cooked to perfection. The lamb meat just slide off the bone, leaving it clean! perfect!!

Sides :

Truffle Kulcha with Wild Mushroom : £N/A tonight (Normally £4.95)

So I am not a super fan of mushrooms, but that doesn’t stop me for trying food that has them in it.

This was really nice naan, the mushrooms added a nice flavour and there was a slight after taste of garlic.

I am glad I tried something different, as I would order this again with maybe a curry.

Mango Peshwari Naan : £N/A tonight (normally £4.25)

So I love ordering Peshwari Naan, and recently got one that was not good!!! So when I came here I had to see how Swadish did them.

I like the naan to be soft and very sweet, and this was very nice….I was happy to have a good Peshwari Naan 🙂

Desert :

So you will have read at the start I said I wasn’t going to have anything else, but Ajay was kind enough to make me some Kulfi.

Saffron and Pistachio Kulfi : £N/A tonight (Normally £7.00)

Traditional Indian Custard-based and creamier Ice Cream, Vanilla Sponge. Pistachio Crumbs, Dehydrated Raspberries, Quinoa Brittle.

I am not a nuts person, so I only had a little of this but I was helped to finish this as I came here with my girlfriend.

The little I did taste was very nice, creamy, very tasty.

Thanks Ajay, and sorry I only took a little….I cant take nuts.

Firstly thank you Ajay and the staff at Swadish, I had a fantastic evening and really nice food.

Cosmo (Silverburn, Glasgow): Review

Ground Floor
Silverburn Shopping Centre
Barrhead Road

V: 9th July 2019. T: 0141 880 6880. W: www.cosmo-restaurants.co.uk

The guys over at Cosmo sent me an invite to come and have a meal at their Silverburn Restaurant, and I accepted and set a date.

To be honest I have never heard of a restaurant called Cosmo at Silverburn, so I had to do some research.

If you know Silverburn, Cosmo is situated at the Cinema end but just outside…this explains why I have never seen it, as normally the cinema is as far as I usually go.

Looking Around

On entering Cosmo is very very nice inside, it has a very modern, clean and nice design/look to it so I was very impressed as most buffets I have been to are just so so in style.

I took a walk around all the areas to start with, and could see they catered for many tastes and styles and the food smells were really good.

The Food…

I had to let my stomach and eyes do the talking tonight, and I had to try a lot of food so I was lucky I was very hungry.

So I selected different items so I could see how most of the starters tasted, yup there was lots more to try but I didn’t want to fill myself up and not be able to eat my main and sweets.

Firstly yup as you can see my presentation sucks, but hey its a buffet and its my plate so I didn’t mind…

I tried everything on this plate and can honestly say, it was very good, everything well cooked and full of flavour.

Main Course

So now it was on to the mains…

I tried different rices, curries and even sweet n sour chicken.

Just like my starters this was really nice and very well cooked, if I was being very fussy the Sweet n Sour Chicken which is a big fav had a slight vinegar hint to it which it really shouldn’t….so I wouldn’t have this again due to that but apart from that everything else was really good.

I was getting very full at this point, but there is always space for some sweets…

There was many to choose from so I opted for the above, and mmmm I loved every mouth-full.

The one part I didn’t try was the chocolate fountain, but I will try that on my next visit.

Firstly a big thanks to the guys at Cosmo, for tonights invite and the meal. Secondly as always my review above is 100% my own thoughts, and has not be influenced just because I was invited.

Tonight I learned of a very nice buffet, that if I hadn’t had the invite I would never have known was there.

For me from start to end I enjoyed all the food, and found it very fresh and full of flavour which is hard to find at most buffets as they tend to loose the flavour by sitting out for ages.

Value for money I cant comment on that as tonight was free for me, but quality of food was very good and I will go back when I feel like a buffet when I visit Silverburn.

Barfia (Glasgow) : Review

60 Forth Street
Glasgow G41 2SS

T:  0141 429 3204.    W: www,barfia.com

I heard about this place opening ages ago, but then it went out of my mind completely.

Recently one of my friends brought one of Barfi’s boxes for me to try with them so I couldn’t wait as I love Indian sweets….well I love sweets period I have a sweet tooth 🙂

This shop has recently opened and from what I have heard is mega popular, and I can see and taste why but I will get to that.

They do many different types of Indian sweets but today I was trying Barfi.

For those of you who don’t know what this is, it is very similar to toffee but not as chewy and softer.

The Barfi…

This was today’s box…and when I say today I mean I will be getting more to try 🙂

  • Millionaires
  • New York Cheesecake
  • Oreo
  • Vimto
  • Banoffee
  • Celebration Cake

Yup, there was one missing but this was eaten before I took the photo.

So let’s do a wee breakdown on flavours :

Firstly the smell was ok and close to what it was trying to be, the taste hmm not that close which is a shame as it could have been really good.

New York Cheesecake

Firstly the smell was spot on, and the flavour was very close so I was impressed with this one.

The smell was just ok, and the taste again so so…this was not that good which is a shame as most things that have Oreos are really good.

This had a strong smell, and unless you’re a Vimto fan you won’t like the taste but if you are then this one is for you.

The smell of this was very good, and the taste was the best out of the whole box. This one was my fav!

Celebration Cake

The smell was very close to a Birthday cake, and the taste was ok you could just taste the cake favour as it was very subtle.

Overall I really liked trying the different flavours, and there are still many more to try.

My favourites were the Banoffee and the New York Cheesecake.

If you have never tried Barfi then take a visit to this place and order a box to sample how it tastes but I do recommend you try the original then these flavours.
