Lunch at the Waldorf Astoria (Edinburgh) : Review

Visit Date : 13 June 2016

I like to take a trip to Edinburgh so when I visited it was about lunch time, and to be honest I never really know of any good places to go to.

Normally I wouldnt have gone over to the Waldorf as it gets a costly name, but I thought I wonder what the cost of lunches would be.

When I got close to the Waldorf I saw a menu on the outside of the building, and wow very costly even for simple dishes but then again its a fancy place so the more costly the prices. I was about to leave when I thought lets take a look inside, just in case they had a lunch menu or something similar.

I am very glad I did as inside they have a very nice bar/lounge/lunch area, this is very nice and very posh but when I sat down I found it very nice and relaxing.

For lunch I ordered the Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap, as you can see its very nicely presented and its was very very tastey. It was filling enough for a nice lunch, and when I do go back and I will be I will order it again.

Chicken Caesar Salad Wrap

This is just as short review as when I go back I will take more photos, and try a few other items.

If you are in Edinburgh do check here out and just go inside and enjoy a nice lunch.

Visit Date : Sunday 5th June

Obu Pan Asian is a new kid to the Glasgow restaurant block. Its located within Princess square. The menu offers the choices in Thai, Japanese and Chinese giving a nice mix of styles and tastes.

I have been to Obu probably around 5 times now….maybe more and so far I have never been disapointed.

This visit since I new I would be blogging about it, I decided to try a few different things on the menu.

Starter :

My starter consisted of two options as currently I am not taking anything after my main.

Pulled Pork Baos which are Light, soft Chinese steamed buns with a filling.

Pulled Pork Baos

I have ordered a Bao before but thought it was just ok, but I really liked the pulled pork Baos.

Tiger Prawn Tempura with a spicy Kimchi mayonnaise dip

Tiger Prawn Tempura

This was my first time trying this and I would order this again, my only complaint was that there were only 3 a few more would have been nice…..but then again it is a starter.

I have to admit this has been the nicest starter I have had in a long time.

Beef Bulgogi Burger

For my main I went for the burger, as you know by my other posts or tweets my favourite place for burgers in Glasgow so far is Byron.

Beef Bulgogi Burger : 7oz beef burger marinated with ginger, soy and sesame oil. Soft bun, kimchi mayo and cheese.

This was again very nice, but I have still to find a burger that is better than the ones from Byron. If your in Obu and like burgers do try it, dont like what I have just said put you off from trying it.

Overall :

Overall Obu Pan Asian, Nippon Kitchen and the Lychee are my 3 top places in Glasgow for asian food.

Please do check out Obu Pan Asian, when I go back I will try a few other items on the menu so keep watching for future reviews.

Sugar Dumplin (Glasgow)  — Rum Club Pampero Event

Event Date : Sunday 5th June 2016

If you know me you know that I am a regular at Sugar Dumplin, as I have been going here since it opened last year. I have visited Sugar nearly every weekend since the opening, so all the staff all know me by first name.

I will do a review for Sugar and my previous visits soon, but this one is about tonights rum club event.

The first event was about Angostura, and a good crowed turned up. What made the first one special was this event was held on Sugar’s 1 year birthday which was a slight shock at how fast the year had been for me. We got to watch a video for this one, and tried many shots of Angostura from different years.

This is the second rum event that Sugar Dumplin Glasgow has put on, and the second one I have been to. The rum tonight was Pampero.

Sugar did a great job at organising this, and they also were generous enough to put on some free food to go along with the events tasting shots.

This one wasnt as large as the first, but to be honest I think it was a lot better as it felt a little more personal. Everyone all seemed to enjoy it, plus I saw a few faces from the first event so was good to meet them again.

Again the presentation from the rum company rep was very good, and we all had a good time and good laugh.

I look forward to going to the next event, as its great to learn about the different types of rum plus its good to meet a new crowd.

If you have never been to Sugar Dumplin, please do check it out the staff are very nice and friendly, the cocktails are amazing and the it has a very relaxing atmosphere.
