Swadish Indian Restaurant (Merchant City, Glasgow) 2021 : Review

V: 12th Septemeber 2021

The Visit :

My dad has had a tough few days, and always said he would like to visit Swadish as he loved the look of all the photos ive taken from there.

Tonight I decided to treat him to dinner.

Starter

Coconut Broth Mussels £7.50
Scottish mussels, green curried broth, spiced bread

I think I had this ages ago, but wanted to give it another shot.

On arrival this looked and smelled amazing, and I quickly took my photos and dug right in.

This tasted so good, and the broth with the mussels or with the bread everything was just perfect!

I could have easily had a second helping of this.

My Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Main

Goan Monkfish £18
Spice crusted pan-seared fillet of Scottish Monkfish. Layers of flavour, depth, tartness and hint of sweetness. Onions and coconut

I spotted this and thought hmm it sounded good but a little pricy….then I thought ah well lets give it a shot.

WOW!!! I am so glad I choose this, the flavour was amazing and the monkfish was mega tasty! it was nice and meaty but just melted in my mouth.

This could be my new favourite dish at Swadish!! and this was another one I could have easily had a second helping off.

My Rating:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Hooligan Wine Bar (Glasgow) 2021 : Review

About

Hooligan opened on Friday September 3rd, and for their menu dishes they use the best seasonal Scottish produce.

Located above The Drake on Lyndoch Street in the city’s Park Circus area, so when you go inside the Drake head on up the stairs and there you will find Hoolgan.

In addition to amazing dishes they also stock a wide selection of wines.

Inside :

Sitting inside its got a very warm and cosy vibe, you instantly feel relaxed and ready to sip a nice wine and have a lovely meal.

The Food

Tonight’s menu looked very nice, and I couldn’t wait to see and taste each dish. Unfortunately due to my nut allergy I couldn’t take the dessert but they made a lovely alternate for me.

Part of the starter was the smoked almonds, which my friend enjoyed very much.

Sourdough & focaccia, roast garlic & thyme butter, evoo

Tonight there was going to be many lovely small plates, so I was really looking forward to the food.

This was the first to arrive at the table, and I was very happy as Focaccia is a big fav of mine.

The focaccia on its own was very nice, and had that lovely flavour. The butter was really good, and just added that extra level of flavour to the focaccia.

This was a lovely first plate and one that I could have easily had more of.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Selection of charcuterie, pickled walnuts, guindilla pepper, with a selection of IJ Mellis cheeses, burnt onion chutney, crackers

I do love a nice cheese board every now and then and this when it arrived looked really nice, plus it had some meats to try to.

Every item on this board was packed with flavour, and all worked on their own or together.

The cheeses were so nice, and lovely on the crackers.

This is another dish I could easily see myself having again with a lovely glass of wine.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Kombu cured monkfish, grapes, mint, dashi

I have never tried monkfish, so I didn’t know what to expect from this dish.

When it arrived this looked very interesting, and it was time to taste it.

WOW! this was a lovely taste not mega fishy, as the Kombu really was the main flavour coming over.

These were so so easy to eat, and just like the previous dishes I could easily have had lots more of this.

My Rating :

Sweetcorn fritter, cumin, garlic, red pepper

When I saw “Sweetcorn fritters” I thought hmm ok so these will just be so so…I couldn’t have been more wrong!

These are addictive!

If nothing else on the menu catches your eye, you have to visit for this!! going by what I heard on the night I visited these were a general fav with everyone else that turned up.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Aubergine, fermented tomato, feta, sumac yoghurt, crispy flatbread

Aubergine is not something I tend to like, its something I have to be in the mood for but I am always up for trying new dishes.

This was another dish I was very surprised at, the flavours all worked very well together and the taste was really nice.

I know I sound like I am repeating myself but this is something I would have again….the flavours of dishes from Hooligans is really top class!!

King Oyster mushroom, salted baked celeriac, mushroom jus

I have a love hate relationship with mushrooms, sometimes they taste just ok sometimes not great so when this arrived I was 50/50 about trying it.

I did try it and I am glad I did, the Oyster mushroom tasted soo nice like a BBQ flavour for me.

I never thought I would say this about mushrooms but this was the nicest I have ever tasted.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Bavette, hash brown, beanaise, charred shallot

I am not a big steak person, but I was willing to try this one. Lucky my friend loved steak so he was happy to finish it for the both of us.

The steak was nice, but as I said am not a fan. The hash brown was AMAZING!!! this is the best hash brown I have ever tasted and could have had loads more of them.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

and to drink – You and I Kombucha (Lime Sea Salt)

I was the designated driver tonight, so I asked for whatever soft drink they had which was this.

I have never heard of this or knew what it tasted like but said ok.

This was very refreshing and very pleasant, I even had two of these as I enjoyed them that much.

My Rating :

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Why Should You Be Exercising On A Regular Basis?

Have you been thinking about how much you are exercising recently? If the answer is yes, then you need to be honest with yourself when we ask you the next question. Are you exercising enough to give your body what it needs? For most people, the answer is no and this needs to be sorted sooner rather than later. In this article, we’re going to be taking a look at why this is important so keep reading if you would like to find out more.

It’s Helps You To Sleep

The first reason that you should be exercising on a regular basis is because it helps you sleep. You are tiring yourself out more through the day, which means that sleep is going to come easier at night. You need sleep in order to remain as healthy as possible, and you might be struggling to get it if you are not doing enough activity throughout the daylight hours. Trust us when we say that if you do at least thirty minutes of exercise, you are going to find that sleep comes so much easier than it did before. Try it out for one day if you don’t believe us, as the results are quick.

It Will Improve Your Health

Another thing that you need to be focusing on is the fact that it will enhance your health. If you use something like an online calorie calculator to track how much you are eating, and also workout frequently, adjusting your goals to how much you have consumed in a day, you are going to be so much healthier than you were. These aren’t massive changes to your life, you are simply counting how much you are eating and adding in some exercise, but the results are going to be fantastic.

You likely hear all the time about how much exercise will improve your health, so why haven’t you taken it up yet? We know it’s hard to find the motivation to do so, but you’re going to thank yourself for putting in the effort in a few years.

Your Mental Health Benefits Too

The final thing that we are going to mention is that your mental health benefits too. When you exercise, your body releases hormones called endorphins which are natural mood enhancers and pain killers. They make you feel good, which is why people always say they feel fantastic after a workout. It might be the case that you worked out once and all you got was a stitch, but if you keep with it, you will start to see why people like it so much.

We hope that you have found this article helpful, and now see some of the reasons that you should be exercising on a regular basis. Hopefully, now you see how important exercise is for the human body and will work to try and incorporate it more into your daily life. We wish you the very best of luck, and hope that you see all of these benefits when you start working out regularly!!
