Hugh’s (Burnside, Glasgow) 2023 : Review

Visit & Vibes

I recently had the pleasure of attending the newly opened Hugh’s, a charming eatery nestled in Burnside. Naturally, I was eager to check out what this local gem had to offer.

When I arrived, it was clear that the owners poured their hearts into this place. The signage and front facade exuded a level of sophistication that hinted at something special within. And let me tell you, I was not disappointed.

Although the interior is on the cosy side, they’ve managed to create a welcoming and airy atmosphere. With several well-appointed tables and tasteful decor, it felt like a spot where you could spend hours enjoying great food and good company.

The Food

Another part I noticed when I entered the charming eatery, my eyes were immediately drawn to an array of delectable cakes on display.

What truly struck me was the warmth and friendliness of the owners. Their passion and dedication to making this place a success shone through in every conversation.

I settled into a cosy corner with a glass of champagne in hand, ready to savour the culinary experience ahead. The promise of little tasters throughout the night had me eagerly anticipating each bite.

The tasting journey was a delightful rollercoaster of flavours. Macaroni cheese, gooey and comforting, transported me back to childhood. Dates wrapped in crispy bacon and drizzled with maple syrup offered a perfect balance of sweet and savoury. Broccoli tempura, a crunchy delight, made me rethink my relationship with vegetables.

But the surprises didn’t end there. The parade of flavours continued with each plate they brought out. From savoury to sweet, I was treated to an eclectic mix of tastes and textures that kept my taste buds dancing.

And, of course, those cake samples I had my eye on earlier didn’t disappoint. Moist and decadent, they were a sweet ending to a night filled with culinary delights.
