The guys over at Chilled Mate contacted me and asked if I would like to try their product. I always love trying new things, so I said yes and thanked them.
A few days later a package arrived at my work, and I opened and started to read about them and also try the product.
About
Chilled Maté – (pronounced mah-tay) is a refreshing drink based on an extraction from the Yerba Mate plant – (pronounced yer-bah mah-tay). The plant grows naturally in many regions of South America including in the Amazonian rainforest. The drink was originally steeped, similar to a tea and consumed by various native tribes within the Amazonian basin. To them the drink gave them both physical and mental alertness as well as being a great provider of vitamins and minerals.
After reading about this product, I was very interested in how it would taste as I was sent two types….one being natural and the other was Sicilian Lemon and Lime flavour.
The Taste…
Ok so before I continue the taste is how I felt about it, just like every drink or food its all down to you and how your taste palate is so you may hate it or you may like it…
I started with the Lemon and Lime can…
Firstly for this, the smell was nice, not overpowering but nice now it was time to take a drink.
Hmmm ok not what I was expecting but then again I didn’t know what to expect as never tried this. From the smell alone I expected something with a strong lemon and lime taste, but this was very subtle.
Ok so next the natural…
So I started with smelling it, similar smell to the first one but no fruitiness.
Ok, so this had a different taste to the first, no hints of citrus just well this drink in its natural form.
Both drinks quenched my thirst and didn’t make me any more thirsty like some drinks do. Flavour wise, natural was ok the lemon and lime was more my style…but I felt it could have had a slightly stronger lemon and lime flavour.
Overall
So for me, the flavour of Chilled Mate does need a little bit of getting used to, I tried this at work for a few days and I did enjoy it. Its very different to what I am used to, as I have a sweet tooth so normally its water or a fizzy drink.
Would I buy this? to be honest I would on the days I felt like a change from my normal water or fizzy drinks. Could I have it all the time? to be honest not really the flavour just didn’t hit the spot 100%.
