Taste Buchanan (Glasgow) Event : Review

IMG_8637

This was a nice surprise….lets start from the beginning.

Normally when I am in Buchanan Galleries I hit the shops, and really only go to the top floor if i need to use the toilet (probably like most people). I spotted a while ago there there were small new pop up restaurants, and thought “one day I will stop in and check them out” but to be honest I always kept going to the restaurants around Glasgow and West End and avoided these.

Not that long a go I saw a Competition on Instagram to win 4 tickets to the Taste Buchanan event, I thought “lets try this as I never win anything” and guess what I did so now I had to make sure 100% I would go and I did.

The Event :

On arrival I could see a lot of people already in and getting served, and I was looking about at the pop up restaurants to see what they were. I was greeted by the events manager and congratulated on my win.

We each got our ticket and the event was explained to use.

You have your ticket which you take up to each stall, and select a meal and the stall will stamp your card.

It was time read the options and see what I would want to try….

The Food :

I decided to rather than go 1 to 5 I would select what I wanted to start with.

Stall #4 : The Hug and Pint

Black Pepper Aubergine with Picked Cucumber and rice

This looked nice and REALLY smelt nice so I couldn’t wait to try it.

The flavours of this dish were amazing, and it didn’t stop after the first mouthful.

As you would have expected from me this was gone very fast, and I could have easily had this again or in a bigger sized dish….but tonight it was all little tasters so I didn’t go for another and saved myself for the remaining dishes.

Portion Size : N/A Tonight
Flavour : 5

Stall #3 : Mama’s

Chicken Chorizo hot pot with infused rice

I LOVE chorizo so I had to go for this.

This smelled OK and to be honest I was very disappointed, I couldn’t really taste the chorizo which in turn made this dish just so so for me.

Portion Size : N/A Tonight
Flavour : 2
Presentation : 4

Stall #2 : SLO Barbecue

Buttermilk Chicken dippers with chipolte mayo

I saw a few people go back to their tables with this, and it looked interesting and I had to try this option.

WOW so good and again it was gone very fast, and again this would be a perfect in a bigger dish for a lunch or big snack.

Portion Size : N/A Tonight
Flavour : 4.5

Stall #1 : Hot Stuffed Bread Company

Banoffee Buntzel and a Sweet Chilli Chicken Buntzel

I had never ever heard of a Buntzel till tonight, so I didnt know what to expect. I saw a few people with what looked like a roll on their tray so I just guessed it was some filled roll…I was wrong.

These are very tasty!!!!, you could say they are the perfect bite full of flavour and extremely moreish.

Portion Size : N/A Tonight
Flavour : 4.5
Presentation : 3

Stall #6 : Daizy Delicious Cafe

Pancakes with banana and Caramel sauce

You could have several variations of this with mixed fruit, sauces etc but I opted for this as I cant take Nutella (Alergic to nuts) .

What can you say this worked, and pancakes and anything are good.

Portion Size : N/A Tonight
Flavour : 5
Presentation : 5

During the event we had singer and performer Marc ?Rooney playing on the guitar and singing popular tuned.

Overall this is a great event that allows you to try different styles of food from different companies. Each month this event will take place with different stalls, so if you come and like one then make sure you visit as much as you can.

The actual cost of the ticket is £10 each, which is VERY good for what you get. This makes it a cheap meal out and also a fun event to take your friends.

To get more information or to learn when the next event is, follow them on Facebook or twitter you won’t be disappointed plus it’s a cheap way to try different dishes that you might not normally try.
